  1. General Presentation

    The Algerian Journal of Orthodontics (AJO) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published under the auspices of the Algerian Society of Orthodontics (SAO). It welcomes original works, literature reviews, updates, clinical cases, scientific communications, and technical or educational notes related to orthodontics and associated disciplines.

    Manuscripts may be submitted in French or English and will be evaluated anonymously by the editorial committee, and if necessary, by the scientific committee. The latter reserves the right to request substantive or formal modifications.

  2. Manuscript Submission

    Authors must send their manuscript by email to:

    Required Files

    The main file must include:

    • The full text of the article, with figures and tables placed in their position within the text.
    • A text-only file, with the locations of figures and tables mentioned.
    • A separate folder containing all figures, named according to the format: Fig1.jpeg, Fig2.tiff, etc.

    Accompanying Documents

    Each submission must be accompanied by:

    1. A submission letter signed by the corresponding author, attesting to:
      • The original nature of the manuscript,
      • The agreement of all co-authors,
      • That it has not been submitted or published elsewhere,
      • That all potential conflicts of interest are declared.
    2. The Conflict of Interest Form, to be filled out and signed by the corresponding author on behalf of all co-authors.
    3. The Copyright Transfer Form (templates provided on request).
    4. Reproduction permissions if content is borrowed from other sources (figures, tables, patient photos, etc.).
  3. Manuscript Formatting

    The manuscript must be provided in Word format (.docx) with the following characteristics:

    • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
    • Line Spacing: 1.5
    • Margins: 2.5 cm
    • Maximum Length: 10 pages (excluding figures), i.e., 20,000 characters

    The article must include, in this order:

    1. Title Page: Full title, First and Last names of authors, Institutional affiliations, Email address of the corresponding author.
    2. Structured Abstract (max. 250 words): Introduction / Material and Methods / Results / Discussion.
    3. Keywords: 3 to 8, separated by slashes (/), compliant with MeSH terminology.
    4. English Translation of the title, abstract, keywords, and the full content of the article.
    5. Main Text, organized according to hierarchical numbering:
      a. Introduction
      b. Material and Methods
      c. Results
      d. Discussion
      e. Conclusion
    6. Acknowledgments (optional).
    7. Bibliography.
    8. Figure Legends.
  4. Illustrations

    • Accepted formats: JPEG, TIFF, EPS.
    • Resolution: 300 dpi minimum, recommended size 1 Mo/figure.
    • Limit: 2 images per figure (e.g., Fig.1a, Fig.1b).
    • Every figure must be called in the text (e.g., "figure 1" in text, "Fig. 1" in parentheses).
    • Captions must be provided in a separate document.
    • Ethics: Faces must be blurred or masked. Patient authorization is mandatory for any identifiable photo.

    Tables

    • Must be clear, concise, and numbered in order of appearance (Table 1, Tab. 1).
    • Provided in Word or Excel format.
  5. Bibliographic References

    References must follow the Vancouver style. They must be numbered consecutively in the order of their first appearance in the text and listed at the end of the manuscript.

    1. Citations in text

    References must be indicated in the body of the text using Arabic numerals in square brackets [1], placed before the final period.

    In case of multiple references, numbers must be separated by a comma [2,5,7] or by a hyphen if references are consecutive [2–4].

    Example: Maxillary orthopedic traction has shown some effectiveness in skeletal Class III [3,7–9].

    2. References at end of article

    • The list of references must be placed at the end of the article, after appendices (if any).
    • Each reference starts with its number, followed by a period, then the bibliographic information in the prescribed order.
    • Writing style is abbreviated (no full first names, no articles "le, la, les", etc.).
    • Journal titles must be abbreviated according to the Medline base (PubMed Journals Database).
    • For author names: up to 6 authors must be listed; if more than 6, indicate the first 6 followed by "et al."

    4. Good Practices

    • Check that all references cited in the text appear in the final list.
    • Do not use footnotes for references.
    • Do not cite inaccessible sources (e.g., personal communications, unpublished data) unless clearly justified.
  6. Ethics and Integrity

    Authors are responsible for the authenticity, scientific rigor, and ethical compliance of their work. Any suspicion of plagiarism, falsification, or double submission will result in immediate rejection.

  7. Rights and Reproduction

    Submission of an article implies the transfer of reproduction rights to the AJO journal. Authors retain their rights to reuse for academic purposes.
